International Happiness day – ways to become happier right now

Jojo Fraser aka mummy jojo

Today is International Happiness Day, perhaps a chance for us to remember to take life less seriously. To have fun, whatever that means to you.  Here are some ways we can bring more happiness into our life right now, no matter what challenges you may face.

Letting go of blame and moving on.  I give you an example below of my favourite ways to do so.

It can be so easy to point the finger at others but I find having a good shake and singing out any negative energy can really help us to feel lighter.  Life is too precious to stay angry or resentful for long.

Plan at least one meal in your day and get excited about it.  Why not make a really tasty sandwich with ingredients you love, something a bit special.  Have a roast on a Wednesday just because, we don’t need to wait for the weekend or special occasions.  How good are yorkshire puddings by the way?  Have you tried yorkshire pudding wraps? Happiness right there.

Unplug.  I like to take myself to a cafe as often as I can and put my phone away.  Sometimes I sit and people watch or daydream.  Sometimes I write stuff down.  It feels nice.  Why not run yourself a lovely hot bath and just sit and focus on how freaking nice it feels.  I love essenial oil bath salts – wow.  Add these ones to your shopping list, I have been using them for about 14 years.  You are welcome.  I found a new one that comes close which I will share in another post soon.

Glimmers vs Triggers.  Last summer I made the video below after reading an article about Glimmers vs Triggers.  Glimmers are those wee moments of joy that can bring light to even the darkest days. They can have a huge impact on our mental and emotional health. Research has shown that regularly experiencing positive emotions can improve physical health, decrease stress and increase the quality of our life and how long we live.  That’s why it’s important to get used to looking out for the glimmers.  At the time when I first saw this quote, I felt pretty broken and lost.  It really gave me a boost and I have remembered it since.  There are always things to be thankful for.  We get more of what we focus on.  In a world full of triggers, be a rebel and focus on the glimmers.

There was a time when life felt so busy and I realised I was listening to less music as a result of this.  I think this is why many of us enjoy going for a drive as it gives us the chance to turn the volume up and get lost in it.  Sometimes you just need to be in the car alone with your favourite song.  Or a full on group singalong whatever you prefer.  Less road rage, more rocking out.  Next time you are in the kitchen, get that music on and twerk on down and shake it all off.

Sometimes we need a new environment.  I like to go walking in new places or to try out a new restaurant or to take the scenic route.  It helps us to feel inspired.  Explore.

You got this.  Sending love and mojo,

Jojo x
