This week, I have been talking about the inner critic. Practising daily mindfulness allows me to check in with my thoughts, become aware of them and then start to distance myself from them. I have noticed that during PMS, there are a few days in the month that my inner critic dials itself right up. There are of course other triggers but I thankfully have a list of tools that work well for me, ensuring that my mind is mostly a kind and positive place. Laughter and not taking myself too seriously is a great start. I like to call it mind vs mojo.
This morning as I was out running, I thought to myself:
Running free from the inner critic and into the mojo. Running is one of the many natural ways to put a slam dunk on any negative thoughts and flood our body with all natural, happy hormones. There are days it can feel like a daily battle and we need to embrace the tools that work.
I often correct people when I hear something that has clearly been hard wired into their brain that is simply not true eg i’m not good enough. Says who? It can be easy to give kind advice to others and not practise the same self compassion ourselves.
My challenge to you is simple – what are you doing when your mind is a kinder place? Hanging out with people who encourage you, meditating, singing, running, swimming, drawing, playing pool, listening to comedy, cooking, reading, dancing, exploring, walking in nature – whatever it is MAKE THE TIME. Schedule it in like your life depends on it. You got this x
