Waking up the mojo at home

waking up the mojo at home - wellness Scotland

I have found it so important to create a calm space at home amongst the chaos going on in the world.  Waking up the mojo when it feels lost is key.  Here are some things that have helped me.

Spending time in water. Water instantly changes our energy.  I have had SO many hot baths, lots of cold showers in the morning or after exercise and many a session in our hot tub or paddling pool.  Cold water therapy has numerous benefits such as easing stress and anxiety, improving circulation and boosting our mood.  As for a hot bath or hot tub, I find it so relaxing and it’s an amazing way to get off the screens.

I even tempted my Mum and she put her feet in the paddling pool, she loved it!

Reading – I have read so many amazing books during lockdown, I find reading an amazing way to escape and of course to inspire and open up our minds.  I was recently gifted a box from Words with Wine,  the UK’s first book and wine subscription box.  The wine was so tasty, great quality and I really enjoyed the book, My Name is Monster, that it came with.  This would be a really lovely gift for someone.  For a one time purchase, it’s £28 a box and for a subscription, it’s £25 per month.

Every month, words with wine will send you the book of the month along with a full-size bottle of wine for you to enjoy while reading your book.  You choose your subscription – monthly, bi-monthly or a one time purchase and every month, what’s in the box is a secret until it arrives.  We all need nice surprises these days.

Candles – Awakening the senses through lovely scents and good lighting has always been important to me.  I adore luxury candles so it was a real treat to be gifted a beautiful Ariska candle.

The candle I received is called Ruby.  It smells so good and I have used it both indoors and outdoors when we have friends and family over.  People often comment on the smell.  I was at a friend’s house over the weekend and noticed that they had a pine cone style Ariska candle – I will be purchasing that when we get back into the cosy festive season.  I think these candles are a steal at £20, they are on a par with the likes of The White Company and Jo Malone.  They also offer bespoke labelling if you have a brand and want to offer a nice gift to your clients.

Uplifting or relaxing events – I was recently invited to a tea cocktail making event on zoom with my friends from Eteaket.

The event lasted an hour and was super relaxing, we started with a meditation and then learnt about the healing properties of the teas and were talked through some delicious tea cocktail recipes.  I was sent a box of the teas beforehand and a list of cocktail ingredients.  I really enjoyed it and took one of my cocktails up to the bath after to prolong the pamper (or course I put my Ruby candle on too).

Flowers – I love to get fresh flowers every couple of weeks.  I also noticed some lovely dried flowers online which I am tempted by.  I always put the flowers in places I will look at them the most.

Wireless headphones –  For Mother’s Day, the kids got me some lovely Beats by Dre wireless headphones.  I love to put these on when I need a little ‘me time’ or need a little bit of motivation when I am cleaning or lifting weights in the garage gym.  The sound quality is amazing and there is nothing like some great tunes to wake up the mojo.

Art therapy – I have been topping up the dining room table with paints, paint sticks, coloured cardboard etc and as a result we needed to get a new cabinet to store it all.  Art therapy was something I loved when I was in hospital at the start of 2020.  It was a great way to slow down my racing and over stimulated mind.  I love sitting with the kids, painting and drawing.  My 6 year old sits for hours, he loves to create and I find it both a bonding and calming experience.  I’m really thankful for these simple moments.  We sometimes play a game where I copy him and we make identical pictures.
