This Thursday, it’s time to talk day 2021. Whilst days like this are important, my vision is that talking openly about our emotional and mental health doesn’t have to be reserved for one day. We should feel free to talk openly any day. This is why I run my podcast in attempt to normalise these deeper conversations. Nothing is off limits. This week, on time for a mojo injection episode 114, we talk about feeling our way through life.
What does your heart yearn for? We all hear that horrible voice of fear – what if. What if I fail? What if something goes wrong? What if I make a fool of myself? What if it is too hard? What if I waste precious time?
Authenticity is doing something because we want to do it, because it feels right. It’s also having the courage to speak up if your gut tells you that something is off. When you naturally trust easily and keep an open mind, this can be hard. Ensuring our actions are congruent with our beliefs and desires, not someone elses, can be a daily goal. We need to check in, no matter how busy life gets. In fact, sometimes the reason we are too busy involves actions that are out of alignment with the things we yearn for. A simple example – being busy with my podcast is in alignment with my yearning to break the stigma and normalise deeper conversations around our emotional health. Being busy binge watching tv isn’t. There are some shows that I love, but for me it’s important to get the balance. Watching much more than two hours a day (unless I REALLY need to switch off and rest) is out of alignment with my yearning to have a healthy body. This yearning has got stronger due to the fact I have been on strong medication for almost a year that is notorious for weight gain and raised cholesterol. Not ideal and I would have liked to come off it sooner, but I am doing what I am told and coming off it slowly and safely. There are also other ways, beside the tv, I love to switch off and chill that are better for my body than excess time on the sofa – cold water swimming, walking, running and dancing. I keep doing those as I yearn to feel good and these things give me energy and a daily mojo injection. We all deserve to feel good and living a heart led life is key. It’s also great to have small and big goals.
I was on a mentoring call with someone earlier and I explained that there are always excuses that pull us away from the things we yearn for. I have not been able to get as many running or walking steps outside due to the ice, yet I can still get my 10K plus daily steps from dancing around the kitchen, stepping side to side when I do the dishes, moving mindfully when I cook and put things away. You can even get some good squats in when you bend to get the clothes out the wash and put them into piles. We don’t need to overcomplicate things. (Tip – wireless headphones are great if you want to go all in on these kitchen sessions. I clocked up around 5000 steps earlier, it felt like a workout session whilst getting things around the house sorted. The twerking was very satisfying.
Back to the podcast – why not join us whilst in a relaxing hot bath, out walking, cooking or cleaning? This week, my amazing guest, Frank Gilhooley, shows up fully. You may know Frank for his acting on Still Game, River City, Outlander, Guardians Of The Galaxy or Outlaw King. Not only is Frank a talented actor and landscaper but he also teaches life changing emotional resilience classes & Masterclasses and online sessions for performers and non performers alike across Scotland with considerable success. His book, Avoiding the Downward Spiral of Fear, has just launched. You can be in with a chance of winning the book, if you answer the following question we put on the podcast:
Frank cycled across Western Australia. At which location did he finish his cycle?
Hint, it was in papers, online and tv so you can do some research if you don’t already know.
You can email me the answer at – mummyjojoblog@gmail.com or across my social channels.
Our discussion gets very deep and Frank shares from his heart and soul. It was a special hour with him and I am delighted to share it with you. Jump in and feel lighter.
