I spoke recently about my own emotions and trauma this year. Whilst this video below is lighthearted, I went through some incredibly intense stuff. I have enjoyed doing some speaking gigs and writing now that I feel much stronger, to raise awareness, not just of the experience I had, but the warning signs before this. Knowing how much this has helped others has given me a huge boost.
This week on my podcast, time for a mojo injection, I speak with Susan Watson, who is based in Edinburgh. Susan had a challenging childhood with a lot of emotional and serious anxiety problems. After 3 broken marriages and so much abuse, homelessness, and dark times, she started to change her life at 40 and her inspirational own personal journey brought her to helping others. I am yet to meet someone in the wellbeing industry who has not been through their own pain. It is why we do what we do. You can tune into our chat here or on spotify or itunes etc (episode 97).
To quote Susan:
‘Well being is the whole picture, to be given an opportunity to live your best life through taking care of your mind, body, emotions, and spirit, to feel complete, and function and enjoy life and reach your full potential. It is to have choices and feel good about life in every way’.
Susan once thought that she was made wrong, that she was just faulty. This of course wasn’t the case and she wants others to know if they feel this way too, that help is available and change is possible.
Susan trained in Mental Health First Aid and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills. She works mostly with anxiety, unhelpful emotions, and past trauma. She has trained in hypnotherapy, Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, Mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Techniques and more recently somatic healing, which is working with the connection of mind and body. Susan loves working with methods that involve self-responsibility. Her focus and the way she works is based around helping others clear emotions and unhelpful thought patterns. She then teaches a multitude of self-help methods and gives tools that can be applied after her sessions. Susan set up Perfect Solutions Coaching to support others to be resilient and understand their own mind and body.
Her favourite pieces of advice are as follows:
