I love Thai food. It takes me straight back to 2006 when I was lucky enough to spend a month travelling around Thailand and those stunning islands. I did it all, the full moon party, the famous beach, mushroom tower, the night boat, skinny dipping at 2am, spicy curry for breakfast, swimming with sharks, hanging out on monkey island. I loved my time in Thailand so much that I even have some Thai script on my arm, but hey let’s talk about that another day
We were recently invited in to check out the new menu for kids at Chaophraya in Edinburgh which is located on Castle Street between George Street & Princess Street. Chaophraya Edinburgh offers breath taking views out towards Edinburgh Castle and out towards the Firth of Forth. It is a contemporary feeling restaurant inspired by Thailand, and the team of Thai chefs bring together classic Thai and distinct signature dishes, accompanied by a fantastic range of cocktails, wines and beers. I have been a fan of the cocktails for some time and they just seem to get better and better. I am talking fresh and SO tasty. Bonnie was thrilled that they had mocktails too and she adored her guava colada.
The team have always offered a children’s menu but have never actively promoted this. To kick start the summer holidays, they are offering kids to eat free. The kids menu is really good. The chicken satay and egg fried rice was super tasty, as was Bonnie’s red curry. It was fairly spicy though so be warned if your kid doesn’t like too much of a kick. Bonnie said she would go for the satay next time, although they also offer chicken fried rice (or veggie) and sweet and sour dishes for kids too. The ice cream is great – I think coconut is always a good shout after a Thai curry.
I went for the papaya salad which was really light, fresh and spicy. My Father in Law had the beef panang and I’ll admit I had a bit of food envy, the meat looked so tender and he said the curry sauce had a nice kick to it. I will try that one next. Hubs had the chicken pad Thai which looked really nice and my Mother in law had the roasted chicken which she loved. The sticky toffee pudding is a must, perhaps one of the best I have had (Bonnie devoured it so quickly that I didn’t have time to snap a pic in fear of not getting a bite).
