We all know that Blue Monday doesn’t really mean anything. But it can be so easy to grasp hold onto an excuse and be dragged down by it all. I mean, if I did I could be crying all day. My little baby boy starts nursery TODAY. No more snuggly afternoon naps, it is well and truly the end of an era. A beautiful, crazy, chaotic but extremely loving era. I will miss my baby.
Also, don’t get me started on how long he takes to pick an outfit! That could bring anyone to tears. But I am so excited for him and all he will learn and so excited for me. Let’s just say, it has been a fun but hectic few years of juggling parenthood, life and work.
Here are some tips to ensure your Monday is bright, not blue. Start by looking at the sky. Do you ever look at the sky and watch it moving? Often I am rushing about under it but there are moments I contemplate how crazy it is that I am here. Life really is a miracle. Right now as I look up, the sky is blue and the clouds look beautiful. I love the colour blue. I love Blue for a name too, Beyonce I’m loving your work. I find it strange that such a beautiful colour is associated with sadness. It came about as blue is related to rain, or storms, and in Greek mythology, the god Zeus would make rain when he was sad.
Whist there may be so many reasons we could grasp onto Blue Monday today – I say let’s make it a bright one.
1- Blast Blue on the stereo. One love, Breath Easy, All Rise, Fly by. We have been having a ball playing these and getting down. Tune into my Insta stories for a quick “feel good” preview. Have a laugh on me.
2- Stop nagging, you will feel lighter and as I wrote about last year – nagging 100% just drives people away. It will mentally wear you out and makes you miserable. And, doesn’t life seem to go a whole lot smoother when you’re not angry? Let go of grudges too, you will feel so much lighter.
3 – Do any form of exercise you enjoy for a quick blast of energy and the all natural happy hormones. Dancing, walking, running, lifting, spinning, sex – JUST MOVE or grind!
4 – Treat yourself to a nice coffee or a new snack you have wanted to try. Sit and enjoy it. Give yourself even 15 minutes with a good book or feel good podcast or blog (hello you). Switch off from the noise chatterbox in your sweet mind.
5 – Do something nice for someone. Send that thank you card or email you have been meaning to do for the past few days/months. Send someone a quick messsage of encouragement.
6 – Light your favourite candle. Take time out for a hot bath or put the PJ’s on a bit earlier than normal.
7 – Look through old photos and write down 3 memories you are thankful for.
8 – Don’t let yourself get too hungry. Remember to eat. You don’t want to see me when I am really hungry, I am a miserable cow. Just ask my Hubs. Today I give a few of my healthy breakfast tips on Insta. Make a homemade soup, that is like a hug in a bowl and is so worth the time to make it. If you are limited with time then bags of frozen vegetables are a great cheat. My Mum makes a homemade soup most days and has been doing so for decades. At 67 she looks fantastic. Some things are worth the time spent. Must try harder!!
9 – Smile at someone you don’t know. On that note – don’t you think the word “stranger” is pretty weird? Let’s try and phase that one out.
10 – Sing your favourite song (or 5) at the top of your lungs. Don’t forget to twerk, how low can you go? Great for getting a peachy butt and toning up those legs. Hello new spring dress and heels.
Happy bright Monday #stopbluemonday xx
