La Favorita Restaurant on Leith Walk holds many fond memories for me. I used to work in the media hub in Leith and my friend Colin and I would get together for a serious “jam session” in his flat every Thursday. A quick stop into La Fav (Edinburgh’s original log fired pizza restaurant) was always a must. I loved our challenge of who could come up with the best and most “out there” topping. Awesome food and great music = deadly combination. All our practise paid off and we loved our open mic sessions on Khao San Road, Bangkok.

La Favorita Restaurant on Leith Walk is consistently ranked as one of the best places for authentic Italian pizza in Britain having won numerous awards since it opened in Edinburgh in 2005. So when I was invited to the launch of the half-a-metre longboards and prosecco, I felt it would be rude not to get involved. Even if my PT, the notorious Graeme Starkey, has me on a strict eating plan for the next 5 weeks. We all need a bit of balance and lots of exercise requires good fuel. The lovely Hayley from A model Moment totes agrees!
I am firmly of the belief that we shouldn’t ban foods that we enjoy and many of the wellness gurus are with me on this one. I love Italian food and like my pizza thin and crispy which is exactly what we got. Freshly made dough from Padova, Veneto, forms the basis of their pizzas so, when cooked in the log-fired Italian ovens, that crispness and epic smoky flavour was bang on for me. Mama Mia.
This new concept is part of a weekly Thursday promotion which offers a half metre pizza and bottle of Prosecco for £40. The offer is for sharing between two and gluten free options are available.
I had to laugh when I had a message from team GG on Instagram saying – PLEASE TELL ME YOU DIDN’T EAT THAT WHOLE PIZZA! The PT is always watching, gotta love social media ha!
We had the option to choose from eight toppings including traditional Italian favourites and popular La Favorita specialties. The Diavolo was probably my favourite, the hotter the better is what I say but even the slices without any chilli still tasted great.
I love to mix it up and often get food envy, so this concept is right up my street. Variety is the spice of life as they say. In fact, when I think back to memories of family meals, my favourite part was tasting everything. It’s all about the community spirit and enjoying food together. That’s the way I want to raise my kids because, as Tony Crolla says, eating out should be fun. It should be relaxed. It is precious time that we get with those we love to catch up and have a bit of banter. It’s a time to get the phones off the table (unless you are a blogger geek then of course a few quick foodie shots are totally acceptable).
Now you might be thinking that is WAY too much food for two people. No bother, the lovely team will happily box it so you can take any leftovers home. I had a very happy hubs waiting for me last night. That definitely eased the blow of leaving him to sort the bedtime routine two nights in a row. This Mama needs to get out on the scene!
The Half-Metre Pizza and Prosecco offer is now available every Thursday from 4pm-10pm at the Leith walk restaurant. Enjoy food and fizz lovers!
